Coming soon! New security service to protect your login

A new multi-factor authentication (MFA) service called UTORMFA is coming to the University of Toronto, beginning summer 2020.

The Information Security team, part of Information Technology Services (ITS), is excited to announce the launch of a new multi-factor authentication (MFA) service called UTORMFA, beginning summer 2020.

If you have ever banked or shopped online, you may already be familiar with MFA — or two-factor authentication (2FA). MFA is a security enhancement that requires two different credentials before granting users access to an account (i.e., your password paired with a code sent to your mobile phone).

At the University of Toronto (U of T), some departments currently use MFA in the form of an eToken hardware to access systems like Human Resources Information System (HRIS) or Financial information System (FIS). The UTORMFA service aims to introduce a more scalable service that can be used across all U of T platforms as needed.

More details will be announced as the service is unrolled. In conjunction with tri-campus IT leaders, a group of early adopters has been identified to test this program, beginning in the next couple of weeks. Self-enrolled opt-in will become available in June to the entire U of T community.
